Submitted by John on 23/06/2009 - 06:00 PM
There are many, many different kinds of hardware that can be installed inside and connected to the outside of a computer. However, there are several standard pieces of hardware that can be found as part of nearly every computer:

Motherboard.
Central Processing Unit(CPU).
Random Access Memory (RAM).
Power Supply.
Video Card.
Hard Drive.
Optical Drive (i.e. DVD/CD drive).
Sound Card.
Network Interface Card (NIC).

Central Processing Unit:
1. The Central Processing Unit (CPU) performs the actual processing of data.

2. A central processing unit (CPU) or processor is an electronic circuit that can execute computer programs.

3. The form, design and implementation of CPUs have changed dramatically since the earliest examples, but their fundamental operation has remained much the same.

4. The computer CPU is responsible for handling all instructions and calculation it receives from other hardware components in the computer and software programs running on the computer.

5. The Integrated Circuit has allowed increasingly complex CPUs to be designed and manufactured to tolerances on the order of nanometers.
