Difference between LPN and RN
Submitted by Charles on 04/07/2009 - 01:07 AM
Full Form of RN and LPN:

RN:
A registered nurse or RN is someone who graduated with a four-year nursing program with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree or a two-year nursing program with an Associates Degree.
LPN: Licensed Practical Nurse or LPN is a nurse who graduated with a one-year Practical Nursing program.

Eligibility:

To become an RN, one must pass the NCLEX-RN (i.e) National Council Licensure Examination , and to become an LPN one must pass the NCLEX-PN.

Differences:

The difference between LPN and RN is in the scope of their duties and practice. RNs take more responsibilities than LPNs and may supervise the LPNs.

The LPNs take care of the patients under the supervision and direction of physicians and registered nurses (RNs) but some experienced LPNs can supervise nursing assistants and aides.
