University Details

Nowrosjee Wadia College, the flagship of the Modern Education Society, from its inception in the year 1932, has been one of the premier, respected educational Institutions, not only in Pune, but also in Maharashtra for the last seventy years. The College was initially affiliated to the University of Bombay and was then affiliated to the University of Pune in 1949, upon the establishment of the latter.

The strength of the College steadily increased from about 300 in 1932 to about 3000 in 1982 and to over 6000 in the year 2003. The excellent educational facilities available at the College, namely the sound infrastructure and experienced and qualified staff members of the College, draw students not only from different parts of the country, but also from abroad.

The College owes immensely to the Wadia Family for their munificence, especially the Wadia brothers – Sir Cusrow Wadia and Sir Ness Wadia, who donated generously in the name of their father Nowrosjee Wadia. The College also owes a lot to Prin. V. K. Joag and other founder members of the Modern Education Society. It is their vision and perseverance, which has taken the College on the path of success.

It is needless to say that the name and fame of the College is because of their dynamic leadership. Our College has been indeed fortunate to have illustrious personalities of academic excellence and administrative capabilities as Principals, like Prin. K. M. Khadye, Prin. V. K. Joag, Prin. N. G. Suru, Prin. P.R. Damle, Prin. Choksey, Prin. Dr. S. G. Mudgal and Prin. A. M. Suru. Teachers of equally high caliber and repute, whose contribution to the field of knowledge has been universally acclaimed, ably supported the leadership.

Mission statement
The motto of the College is “For the spread of light”. It is the endeavor of the Management of the College, of the Teaching and Non-Teaching staff, to provide good, quality education aiming at a holistic, overall development of the personality of each of its students, in an atmosphere conducive to educational activities.

The goals of this Institution may therefore be laid down briefly as follows:

Placement

Nowrosjee Wadia College strongly believes that the higher education should help students in building their career. The students should become employable. Nowrosjee Wadia College has excellent track record of placements. Many reputed multinational companies visit the college for campus recruitment for post-graduate as well as under-graduate students. The placement cell of the college works very hard. All these campus recruitment processes are coordinated through the placement cell of the college. The placement cell organizes Seminars, workshops and Guest lectures for developing soft-skills of the students. The percentage of the placements of the students of
M. Sc.(Computer Science) and M. Sc.(Tech) is almost 99%. In recent years several of our students of B. Sc.(Computer Sc., Mathematics, Physics and Electronics) have been selected by reputed companies like Infosys, Tech Mahindra, Patni, Wipro, Cognizant, Google etc. Our Geology, English, Chemistry students also are in high demand in companies in associated fields.

The companies, which visit the college come from the IT sector, BPO, Service Industry and Corporate Training.

a) Economically backward class freeship-Annual Income of Rs.15000/-.
b) Freeship to the sons/daughters of primary school teachers.
c) Freeship to the sons and daughters of secondary school teachers.
e) Freeship to sons and daughters of defence service personal and ex-servicemen.
f) Govt. of India Scholarship to BC students belongs to SC / ST / VJ / NT / SBC / OBC with parential Income of Rs.65,290/-.
g) Govt. of India BC Freeship belongs to SC / ST / NT / VJ / SBC / OBC with parential Income over Rs.65,290/-.
h) Maharashtra Government's freeship to girls students in Junior College.
i) "Eklavya Yojana" for Post-Graduate studetns whose parents Income per year is less than Rs.35000/-.
j) Physically Handicapped Scholarship is available to the concerned students whose parent income is less than Rs.24000/- per year.
