AIT was founded in August 1994, as a result of the vision, and untiring efforts of Gen B.C Joshi PVSM, AVSM, ADC.The Institute was inaugurated by Gen S.Roy Chaudhary PVSM, ADC on 24th Feb, 1995.The beautiful campus, serene ambience and architectural splendor,state of the art infrastructure, all provide vital ingredients for a delectable academic environment for development of total quality engineers.
The first batch of BE students graduated in 1998 with flying colours.The succeeding batches continue to excel in all fields-be it sports,cultural or academics.And this tradition of excellence promises to remain unfizzed with every new batch coming to the Institution.
Within this short span of time, AIT has acquired National Assessment and Accreditation Council(NAAC) and ISO 9001:2000 certifications. Percentage of students placed in 2008-09 batch is 92% whereas percentage of girl students placed is 97%.

Accommodation
AIT is a fully residential college.Presently there are 3 hostels within the Campus, two for boys and one for girls.There is a mix of triplet,twin sharing or single rooms in each hostel.
Each hostel has its own TV room and gymnasium. The hostels are equipped with modern amenities like solar heating plant and refrigerator and a gymnasium. All students can have internet connection in their room.
Mess
Each hostel has a mess of its own.Menu is full of variety catering to tastes of all regions. The kitchen and dinning hall are fully equipped with modern gadgets/ appliances.Messing is compulsory except on holidays/weekends.
Admission
Eligibility Criteria
The eligibility criteria for admission to AIT is given in detail in the Prospectus which will be available from first week of February 2009. Brief outline is as below :-
(a) Candidate must be a child of one of the following:-
(i) Serving Army Persons.
(ii) Ex-Army personnel granted/awarded regular pension, discharge, release medical board/invalided medical board. This includes children of recruits medically boarded out and granted disability pension, liberalized family pension, family pension or disability pension at the time of their superannuation or demise.
(iii) Ex-Army personnel who have taken discharge/release after 10 years of service.
(iv) War widow.
(b) Children of only those ex Army medical officers / Army Dental medical officers presently serving with Indian Navy or Indian Air Force who have served with the Army for 10 yrs.
(c) Details of eligibility of adopted/step children, APS personnel and MNS/TA personnel are as in the prospectus.
(d) Should have passed, or appeared for 10+2 exam, at the time of applying for admission to AIT. Minimum acceptable mark in PCM are 50%.
(e) Age of the candidate must be between 16 to 21 years on 01 Jul 2009.
(f) Must be an Indian citizen, or a PIO who obtains Indian citizenship before admission.

3. AIT admission is based on the Rank obtained in the All India Engineering Entrance Exam (AIEEE). All applicants are therefore required to appear in AIEEE and also apply to AIT.

The All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE-2009) will be conducted on 26 Apr 2009. The sale of AIEEE Application Forms is expected to commence from 01 Dec 2008 and likely to be on sale till early Jan 2009. Further details may be obtained from AIEEE or their website www.aieee.nic.in.
6. The last date of receipt of forms at AIEEE is to be ascertained from their advertisements, web site or regional offices located in the states.
Note :- AIT does not sell/issue AIEEE Application Form nor indulges in any process of conduct of the said exam.

7. AIEEE Application Form should be filled before AIT Application Form. The AIEEE Roll No must be endorsed on the AIT Application Form before submitting it to AIT. Failure to do so would result in rendering the AIT Application Form null and void.
8. Admission notice to AIT will be published in selected national newspapers in the first week of Jan 2009. It will also be hosted on the AIT website www.aitpune.com.
